Fun Fact #2: Like humans, trees are not immune from disease or lack of nourishment, however most trees can never die of old age! The oldest tree is 4,848 years old in the California Inyo National Forest.
Fun Fact #3: Some trees never stop growing. Particularly, a redwood species called Hyperion stands approximately 380 feet high!
Fun Fact #4: Trees can communicate with each other! They do so through an underground system created by soil fungi.
Fun Fact #5: Knocking on wood comes from the ancient pagan religion of the Celts, where they believed kindly spirits lived in trees, with knocking on the tree would awaken the spirit for protection.
Fun Fact #6: Planting trees can help reduce energy costs! A strategically placed hady tree can help cool your home by 20 degrees in the summertime.
Fun Fact #7: Different parts of a tree grow at different times of the year. Foliage growth happens in the spring, trunk growth in the summer, and root growth in the winter and fall.
